Nose Gear Doors Part 1

With the fuselage in an inverted position, the conditions are ideal for making and installing the nose gear doors. There are three doors in total, originally made from aluminium sheet. I've decided to make them from composite material, which saves a significant amount of weight.

The positive mold was created in a similar manner to the nose covers, using a foam core that was sanded to match the fuselage profile, followed by a lot of filler, sanding, more filler, and even more sanding.

Molding the negative form was almost routine at this point. In it, I was able to laminate the outer shell of all three gear doors in one go using three layers of carbon, and then roughly trim them to match the shape of the wheel well.

Now, the foam cores for each individual door are being inserted into the shells before the next layer of carbon is applied on top.

More to come...
